The 2024 Volunteer of the Year Award Winner

Sherb Cameron

A photo Sherb CameronSherb is one of our longest serving supporters, having volunteered with us at least since 1998 (and probably before that – he pre-dates our databases!). He was an early stalwart in our parking team at the CVS Classic, taking a leadership role alongside Stan Dimock and enabling that event to run smoothly and generate thousands of dollars in donations to Save The Bay.

He’s participated in shoreline cleanups, he’s volunteered at The Swim, and upon his recent retirement he became one of our most reliable and frequent volunteers at our Aquarium. But in addition to being a long-term leadership volunteer, what makes him special is that he supports Save The Bay in so many other ways. He’s been a donor for as long as he’s voluntered, he’s been a swimmer at The Swim, and he’s volunteered and participated with his parents and children as a family tradition.

From Stephany Hessler: “My fondest memories with Sherb are when he used to volunteer at the CVS Classic with us in the parking lot. He really was a volunteer leader who we could assign to any task, and he would willingly and thoroughly train any new volunteers joining us each year. I’ve seen Sherb volunteer with us before the crack of dawn for events, and late into the day, and no matter the location, the time, or the situation, he ALWAYS has a smile on his face, a kind word, is helpful, cheerful, and engaged. He has been a steadfast supporter of Save The Bay and our work.”

Sherb’s incredible, long-standing commitment makes him especially deserving of the honor of Save The Bay’s volunteer of the year award, and I enthusiastically recommend him!
